We believe that in order for a church to grow strong and healthy it must have a clearly defined purpose. Having a clear purpose builds unity, it reduces frustration, allows concentration, and attracts cooperation. A clear purpose should not only define what we do, but also what we don’t do.
Our purpose at Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church is summarized in a single statement:
“To lead ordinary people to become extraordinary followers of Jesus Christ.”
Our purpose statement is based on the teachings of Jesus:
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart …soul and …mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40)
Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 19-20)
Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church exists:
- To celebrate God’s presence in worship.
- To share the Good News of Jesus with others.
- To connect with other believers in meaningful relationships.
- To prepare disciples to fulfill their purpose.
- To demonstrate God’s love through service.
